On 3 May 2024, the Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality Cllr Walter Mngomezulu led a District Mayoral Imbizo held at Grootvlei within the Dipaleseng Local Municipality. The Imbizo was preceded by the official handover of the upgraded Fortuna Water Treatment Plant which was upgraded from 6.5 Ml/d to a 19.5Ml/d (Phase 2).
The scope of work included the upgraded abstraction house, new pumping main from abstraction and new inlet works, new two circular chlarifuculators, new service building (filters, clearwater storage, pump house, dozing station), and two standby generators and upgraded electricity supply. About 81 jobs were created and over 30 SMME’s benefited during the project.
