Gert Sibande District municipality is made up of six departments namely Corporate Services, Community and Social Services, Finance, Infrastructure and Technical services, Planning and Economic Development and the Office of the Municipal Manager. All these Departments entail a staff compliment relevant to the service expected by its customers as informed by the service delivery needs within the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
This booklet attempts to advocate for scarce skills from the fields of science, engineering and technology required by local government, specifically Gert Sibande District Municipality which can assist in ensuring that the District is able to effectively respond to infrastructural and economic challenges.
Additionally, the booklet maps out the engineering and scientific fields available in local government to allow young people an opportunity to consider local government when making school subject choices towards their potential scientific careers. Education, through the prioritisation of scarce skills will help advance the district even in these technologically advanced times. We therefore urge young people to make use of this booklet and consider joining the municipal workforce to help develop towns and cities.
